Rapper Kanye West recently commented on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) saying “don’t ask me to f**king NFTs”. Thanks to fellow rapper French Montana, the rapper may be starting to find the topic relevant, at least in part.
Montana talked about his latest album during an appearance on NFT Miami (April 1-3). “Montega”. For the album, the artist collaborates with Radio Caca. Additionally, an NFT Collection of 10,000 playable GameFi NFTs will be released with the album. These NFTs are compatible with the metaverse.
According to the Franco-Moroccan rapper who supports crypto, the interest and understanding of NFTs and the Metaverse is a question of generation:
“When you talk to someone about NFTs, the first response is, ‘I live in the real world. I don’t live in the metaverse, I live in the universe. It makes you wonder how you can even talk to anyone, you know, but when I talk to my little brothers and the young people, they know more, my son and all the others too. So I have to follow the new generation.
Collaboration between Kanye and Montana
Until recently, French Montana worked with West on his latest album, Donda 2. The album was only released on the STEM player, a $200 MP3 player and remix device developed by West and Kano Computing.
Montana is now in talks about releasing his new album on STEM. In conversations with West, he came out in favor of NFTs and the Metaverse.
“Me and him [West] always talks back and forth because he’s one of those people who talks about “the universe, not the metaverse”. So we always talk back and forth. Kudos to Kanye as he is definitely supportive and open to the idea. And me and Radio Caca are so close to bringing the STEM reader into the Metaverse.”
Montana wants to release “NFT’s greatest album”.
The plans for French Montana’s fifth studio album, Montega, are quite ambitious. Montana has high hopes for the upcoming release, which he says will combine music, NFTs, games and the Metaverse for the first time:
“I really want to make sure I have NFT’s biggest album to come out this year.”
Montega comes with a 10,000 piece NFT collection called 2D Montana, which includes 2D playable game characters and Metaverse integration. Radio Caca will also integrate Montega’s NFTs into Metamon, Gamefi’s existing Play-to-earn product.
To further sweeten the deal, fans who purchase Montega will receive a host of other benefits. This includes exclusive access to Montana through its Discord server.

Montana thinks that if the album is successful, it will encourage other great artists like Kanye to follow in his footsteps: “I just feel like it gives me a leap of faith and I’m trying to start a new wave and show my high-profile friends and everyone who makes music that this marriage is possible and can to succeed.”
Although French Montana is something of an NFT evangelist, he’s not the only rapper who’s an NFT enthusiast. Snoop Dogg has been making headlines in the NFT space, even going so far as to reimagine himself as the superhero “Supercuzz” in a recent NFT collection. Additionally, Snoop Dogg recently sat down with Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson to talk about NFTs and crypto.
Most rappers have never been shy about making a name for themselves in the business world. If Montana and Dogg prove they can make good decisions in the NFT space, it won’t be long before doubters like West follow them down the NFT rabbit hole.
