NRW – In just one month, all citizens over the age of 18 will once again have the opportunity to elect a new state parliament in NRW. Many eligible voters are still undecided before entering the voting booth to whom they should give the first and second vote. Wahl-O-Mat: Regional elections in NRW are approaching – online voting support will be available soon
The elections to the parliament of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia will take place on Sunday 15 May. Many voters or first-time voters still have to orient themselves among the available parties before the election. The Wahl-O-Mat was already a popular tool during the last federal and state elections. This year he will again be available to help eligible NRW voters with their voting decision. On Thursday (April 21), the online voting support will be activated and can be used by everyone.
The Wahl-O-Mat was developed as an online tool by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). As soon as it is available online, the online voting aid will be available on the homepage and as an app on the smartphone (more news from NRW on RUHR24).
Wahl-O-Mat for regional elections in NRW: how does the Wahl-O-Mat actually work?
The Wahl-O-Mat determines for each user the parties that best correspond to his or her own political views. The tool presents 38 theses, each of which can be answered by “agree”, “disagree”, “neutral” or “ignore the thesis”.
The Wahl-O-Mat for the 2022 national elections will go live for NRW on April 21.

All parties admitted to the election may be considered by the Wahl-O-Mat. The result of the question and answer tool then shows the degree of personal agreement with the selected parties. Your own answers to theses can be compared at any time with the positions of the parties.
The theses to be answered are previously selected and compiled by numerous political scientists, statisticians and political scientists. Political parties can express their position on each individual thesis. This is then recorded in the Wahl-O-Mats. The theses are chosen in such a way that the different points of view of the parties can be distinguished as clearly as possible.

The latest statistics from the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) show that the Wahl-O-Mat is gaining more and more users. Whether at the federal or state level, millions of people have used the voter assist tool in recent election years.

Many users want to use the tool to verify their existing voting decisions. According to a Wahl-O-Mat Research survey, 85% of users even said they only use the Wahl-O-Mat for fun. Help with online voting is also increasingly covered in school lessons.
Anyone who can no longer wait for the Wahl-O-Mat has the option of using other online voting aids such as the Wahlkompass.
