After UN.According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, every person in the world has rights from birth – such as parental care, freedom of expression or education. These serve to protect dignity and prevent interference by others with personality, freedom and privacy. In addition, in Austria there are separate laws for persons under the age of 18 within the framework of youth protection, which aim to protect young people as well as possible against dangers to their development. These are summarized under the term “protection of minors”. The InfoEck, the state information center for young people, families and senior citizens, will focus on the topic “Rights and protection of minors” in May and will provide information to interested parties at all locations and in row with target-specific content to group. For example, InfoEck offers a quiz on its social networks and raffles the children’s book “Justine und die Kinderrechte” by Antje Szillat on the subject of children’s rights.

“For all young people under the age of 18, special regulations apply in many areas to protect them. It is important that young people are aware of their rights and responsibilities. Because only when children and young people are aware of their own rights can they claim them,” emphasizes the Youth Council Anton Mate.

Know your rights!

“The task of youth protection is to protect children and young people as well as possible against dangers and at the same time to promote their personal responsibility. With the help of youth protection, they can make agreements and take decisions in a protected environment. L/R question “With the brochure ‘Jugendschutz in Österreich’, the InfoEck offers a compact overview of the current legal regulations in Austria and Tyrol. The brochure can be picked up at InfoEck points during opening hours or sent free of charge throughout Tyrol,” adds the Managing Director of InfoEck. Christopher Bindra.

As part of the monthly focus, the InfoEck not only informs young people about their rights: families can, for example, find out about the legal situation with regard to marriage, cohabitation or separation. Seniors receive information on topics such as living wills, partial retirement or pension accounts.

InfoEck Mobil brings information to regions

In May, the InfoEck Mobil will be on the road again as a mobile state information point as part of the “1 day, 1 valley” initiative – this time in East Tyrol on 12 and 13 May 2022. The InfoEck will also participate in the national final of the Tyrolean speech contest for young people on May 4, 2022, an opportunity to provide information on the protection of minors.
