There are 456 bottles of Ardbeg Fon Fhoid in partnership with Blockbar.com – as an NFT (a digital version of the bottle that can be redeemed and/or exchanged for a real bottle by the buyer). It will be available from April 19, the price is 1 ETH, which corresponds to a value of just over 2800 euros – so not a drinking whiskey for the average consumer.
Of Ardbeg Fon Fhoid comes from two casks buried in the Islay bog which have now been salvaged and bottled. There will certainly be an official press release for the foreseeable future, here we bring the information to the committee members – since 10:50 there is also the official press release, which we now put before the information to the committee members:

Ardbeg Fon Fhòid – a revolutionary company
Islay / Munich, April 14, 2022. A few years ago, under cover of darkness and with the help of distillery manager Mickey Heads, Ardbeg buried two nearly finished ex-bourbon barrels with Ardbeg in the Islay peat. The aim was to determine the influence of an oxygen-poor, water-rich and marshy storage location on the maturation of Ardbeg. This is most likely the first ever recorded underground ripening experience for 2 years and 10 months. The result of the excavations is now 456 bottles of extremely rare and unique NFT Ardbeg whisky. Ardbeg Master Distiller Dr Bill Lumsden says:
“I think you can say we have brought to light a very special Ardbeg here. Ardbeg Fon Fhòid – is earthy, peaty and smoky with a great nose!
Ardbeg Fon Fhòid (Gaelic for “under the grass”) is a limited release of 456 virtual bottles, available worldwide from April 19 exclusively on BlockBar.com. BlockBar trades NFTs (non-fungible tokens) as digital assets for a variety of specialty distillates on its platform. Those lucky enough to be able to purchase the whiskey virtually will receive a digital version of the bottle as an NFT. This can be stored, traded, or exchanged for a physical bottle. Thus Ardbeg Fon Fhòid can be enjoyed in all its smoky glory whenever desired.
Thomas Moradpour, President and CEO of The Glenmorangie Company, owner of Ardbeg Distillery, says:
“We are very pleased to launch this first and exclusive Ardbeg NFT bottling – one of the most sought after whiskeys in the world. Our whiskey makers are continually pushing the boundaries of experimentation. It is a privilege to own the one of their most intriguing creations to date, a true piece of Ardbeg history.
Dov Falic, CEO and co-founder of BlockBar said:
“We are very excited to partner with Ardbeg to launch the first Ardbeg NFT. We hope new and established whiskey enthusiasts will take the opportunity to join our community to experience this peated experience. BlockBar will store the bottling in perfect conditions until owners are ready to enjoy.
TASTING NOTE ARDBEG FON FHÒID (45.5% ABV ABV)
COLOR
pale straw
IN THE NOSE
Strong, waxy and salty with an odd but distinct mossy note. This is followed by a dash of molasses or cane sugar. An earthy note in the background, like entering a damp whiskey warehouse. A little water releases more herbaceous notes, with asparagus or artichoke. This is followed by a waxy, oily scent reminiscent of a freshly waxed jacket, along with a distinct soapy aroma.
IN MOUTH
A slightly dry taste is followed by salty notes of grilled artichokes, ground pepper with a hint of rye bread. Ardbeg’s classic smoke is understated, with hints of tar-soaked fennel.
REVERBERATION
Powerful and slightly dry, with a pronounced bacon saltiness.
And here is the message to the committee:

Dear committee members,
A few years ago, under cover of darkness and with the help of the distillery manager at the time, we buried two nearly finished ex-Ardbeg bourbon casks in Islay peat.
Just why? Our natural curiosity was piqued. We wanted to know how a low oxygen, watery, swampy storage location affects our beloved Ardbeg. This is most likely the first underground ripening experience ever recorded.
the drama
The result of our excavations is now 456 bottles of extremely rare and unique NFT Ardbeg whisky.

“I think you can say we have brought to light a very special Ardbeg here. Ardbeg Fon Fhòid – is earthy, peaty and smoky with a great nose!
